Blue and White French Nursery

April 24, 2022

I’ve sat down a few times in the last two years to write this post. For some reason writing about decor on the internet just doesn’t seem like a priority after having a baby. But I do think it’s nice to take a moment to capture the moment.

This room is so special to me. There is nothing better then nesting for your first baby. So many hopes and dreams get imbued into it. I wanted this room to be calm and a place I liked to be. I also wanted it to be gender neutral to transition a future baby.

The walls are a creamy white and the ceiling is a light french blue. Babies spend a lot of time looking up, so I always love a nursery ceiling treatment. Some will warn of doing anything too crazy as to not over stimulate baby, but I love the 4th wall being the accent color.

In my second trimester we went on a babymoon to Paris, and that trip very much inspired some of these choices. Those curtains were inspired by ones at the Grand Trianon in Versailles. The soldier above the crib was picked up at the flea market there. The light blue on the ceiling and sprinkled in the room is a take on French Blue.

Crazy enough in the last year since I took these photos we’ve had a few changes here and there. An update is already needed. For example, the gallery wall was replaced by a large mirror and the curtains (that I still love and miss) had to be changed out for something more practical (aka room darkening). But that is the beauty of rooms, they are evolving living things! It’s nice to touch base in time to appreciate where they started and where they’ll go.

The cutest memory cards picked up at the Paris flea market and framed.
