The Pretty Potential with Terra Cota Properties

January 7, 2013

When looking for a house to buy I kept a list of a few must-halves. At the top of the list was curb appeal. Inside a house I can look past a lot – wallpaper, wood paneling and bad carpet do not phase me;  I know they aren’t as permanent as they may look. An ugly exterior? No thanks – I wouldn’t know where to start. But after perusing Terra cota Properties before and after portfolio I might be a convert. There IS pretty potential in an ugly house (with the right architect).

This house is cute – it would pass my standards but it’s not necessarily a dream house that stops you in your tracks.
The after is stunning! And I would LOVE to increase the peak on our house! Out attic is large and screaming for a second story master suite – BUT if we went this route it would be sooo much better.

If the below was one of our buying options I would have driven right on by. Yes there’s shutters and brick, but it reminds me of sprawling track houses.

The after is simply gorgeous and makes me drool all over.

This house is okay, I can kinda see the potential but in the end it lacks the architectural elements that give it character.

It’s now totally cute with all the character it needs.

The garage isn’t a bad before, but when compared with the after you can see that there was room for improvement.

What do you think – would you ever take on a project like the ones above? I think I’d have to say yes, but then again I’m a little crazy.

What a great post! Wow that third house make over is so different it dose not look like the same house. What a difference! Do you live in Washington or Oregon? Your house reminds me of that area. A lot of craftsmen out there. I love craftsmen homes. But your pix looks a wee bit too sunny to be the PNW!

Wow these transformations are incredible! It seems to take a lot of skill to create something like this. In my place people keep demolishing and rebuilding. I wish they would pick up the habit of seeing the potential of an old house. Thanks for sharing these! Very inspiring. 🙂

Wow! I would absolutely love to do that, but it would be even more awesome to have family & friends who could support and help you. Mine are pretty awesome–but I don't know if they're THAT talented. 😉
